One day, the girl decided to think about writing again.  Why you ask?  Or maybe you didn’t ask, but let’s go with the whole “you asked” scenario…

Since you asked, the blog became relevant again to the girl geek because she landed a rather cool sort of gig that meant she would be working on her employer’s mobile platform.  Which freaking rocks, yo!

Because of a renewed interest, a re-geekifying if you must, of this girl geek, the blog sprung to life again!!!!

YAY!!!!

Let me bottom line it for you.  OGL is once again undergoing a facelift.  The He of Geeks is working on a new layout while the She of Geeks shall be writing.  And writing.  And…WRITING!!!

When I was younger, being a geek was a bad thing. These days, being a geek is not only a good thing – it’s COOL to be a geek.

Geeks know gadgets. Geeks know how to hack your gadgets so that they can do all sorts of cool things. Geeks know how to set up your flat panel tv, surround sound and home theatre. Geeks know how to fix your computer when you get it all junked up with viruses and other nastiness from all the pron you’ve been looking at late at night (bet you didn’t know we knew you did that).

So dispel all those antiquated beliefs and stereotypes.  A geek not only has mad skills, a geek is a smart person with a wicked evil sense of humor.  True, if you’re not a geek, you may not get some of the jokes  But hey, I’ll be your friend anyway.

Geek shirts, wear them proud!

I’ve been called a nerd before and I have always responded, “I’m not a nerd. I am a geek.” To which someone would ask, “What’s the difference?”

Easy.

A Geek is a nerd with social skills. To further back this up, I pulled up the always amusing, but sometimes informative, Urban Dictionary.

Listed below is one of the definitions listed on the website.

GEEK

One of four titles used to classify someone based on their technical and social skills. The other three titles are nerd, dork, and normie.

The difference between the four titles can be easily shown in table form:

Normie ……… Tech Skills (NO) – Social Skills (YES)
Geek …………. Tech Skills (YES) – Social Skills (YES)
Nerd ………….Tech Skills (YES) – Social Skills (NO)
Dork…………. Tech Skills (NO) – Social Skills (NO)

Normie: A normal person. Blah.

Geek: An outwardly normal person who has taken the time to learn technical skills. Geeks have as normal a social life as anyone, and usually the only way to tell if someone is a geek is if they inform you of their skills.

Nerd: A socially awkward person who has learned technical skills due to the spare time they enjoy from being generally neglected. Their technical knowledge then leads normies to neglect them even further, leading to more development of their technical skills, more neglection, etc. This vicious cycle drives them even more into social oblivion.

Dork: A person who, although also socially awkward, doesn’t have the intelligence to fill the void with technical pursuits, like a nerd, and is forced to do mindless activities. Almost always alone. Usually with an XBox. Like playing Halo. All day. Every day. Not even understanding how the Xbox is making the pretty pictures on the screen. Very sad.

So as  you can see, GEEKS rule!
