Mr. Rollback, known in real life as Darrell Owens is a local Wal-Mart associate working in the Midlothian Wal-Mart on Hull Street Road. Imagine my surprise this morning when I lost my Geek Hubby in Wally World, only to find him cheesing it up with Darrell. Darrell was busy restocking an endcap in the grocery section of the store when James said, “Hey wait…my wife was right! You DO work here!”
We spent a few minutes speaking with Darrell about his experience and about his plans for the future. He has been on quite the whirlwind tour, taking his first flight ever last month. He has spent time in Nashville and Bentonville and will be traveling to New Orleans soon. All this and still pulling hours here on Hull Street.
He’s as real as real can get. He’s a regular guy, a working class American, with hopes and dreams just like everyone else. He’s humble. He’s authentic. And he’ll shake your hand and help you out just like you would hope he would.
Darrell is making some good money in the nationally broadcast commercials, but he’s very matter of fact about it. He said he’s saving to buy his first house. His hope is that he will be able to pay for the house in full, but if not, have a very small house payment and then put money away, “just in case”. He also said that his momma is proud of him, which was also a very cool thing to hear.
Wal-Mart hit it out of the park with this one. Their selection of Darrell as the face of WalMart works because he is who you see on TV. He isn’t an actor. He isn’t some Hollywood model. He’s the real deal. He’s helpful, polite, and always smiling. What more can you ask for in a brand image? Wal-Mart wants to be the place for “every man” and with Darrell fronting their advertising they get that and more.
If you’re in Chesterfield County and happen to be in Wal-Mart, say hello to Darrell. You’ll see what I mean.

can you please tell me where the Walmart you work at in a state or a country?
thats pretty awesome.i want to meet him!
Hey, there I totally agree I met Darell when his wife was playing the piano at my fathers church. They have both always been nice, loving and caring people. If Darell had it and you needed it it was yours. He always made people laugh, and feel good. I’m really happy that he’s in a good place right now and as long as he keeps putting God first he will always be in a good well GREAT place.
Love, love, love the ice cream commercial!!! I don’t care for for Blue Bunny (I’m a Haggen-Daaz) girl, but I love you in the spot. Great to see a REAL spokesperson.
Love him on the commercials, love him even more after reading this. I wish he and his family were my neighbors (in Wisconsin!)(
Blessings! : )
That is so cool. I never would have known that he wasn’t an actor. Kudos to Wal-Mart and best of luck to Darell!

I love Mr Rollback. He is doing a wonderful job for Walmart. I look forward to his commercials.
I need to go to the Wal-Mart on Hull st to see Mr. Roll Back. It’s cool to know that someone of VA made big!
I think that Darrel is the greatest, most real addition that has happened to Walmart! There’s something very special about the way he presents himself! I know God will continue to bless him & his family always! Keep up the good work, Mr. Rollback!
He is so positive and has a great smile. What a bright spot when so many commercials are mean spirited and dark. They can be funny, but lots of mean stuff. I find myself smiling when I see him and want to go shopping at Walmart. He is a very positive “EVERYMAN”. He seems like a very nice, real person. A natural. Good Luck to him in his success.
I love these commercials! He seems very sincere. Makes me want to shop at WalMart all the more. I’m going to the Midlo. store tomorrow just to see Mr. Rollback! May God continue to bless him.
He works at my local Walmart right up the street.
Awesome that the commercials are national. I thought they were only local. He is a great spokesperson for the store.
He is a really great guy. Native of Amelia County, Virginia currently lives and works in Chesterfield County, Virginia
